Lo que dice el Arxiduc:

“The salty lagoon is shaped like a horn… The large lagoon has a circumference of 60 km, measuring 15 km long and approximately 10 to 11 wide. The surface area spans over 15,000 hectares with a constant depth of 12 to 13 meters.

On one end of the salty lagoon is Gara Leckheul consisting of fresh water. It is approximately 9 miles long and 6 miles wide. The two lagoons are connected by a narrow canal called Oued Tindja.”

Archduke Ludwig Salvator of Austria, Bizerte, J. Rothschild, Paris, 1900 (Prague, 1897)

Datos proyecto Nixe III:

We weren’t able to visit the salt-water lagoon as recreational boats are no longer permitted inside. However, we did visit Ichkeul lagoon and were truly impressed by its beauty.

Today it is a natural park with a wide variety of plant and animal species. It is often visited by people interested in botany, ornithology and fresh water species. The lagoon is characterized by slightly changing salinity levels, especially in summer, due to the influence of its salty neighbor.
