“There are four, horse-drawn mills on Paxos, three in Lakka and one in Gaios. Each mill requires two horses. There are seven windmills, but only three work, two in Longo ( Longos) and one in Lakka. The others are no longer used.
Other products made include bread, wax, alcohol, soap, snuff, fabric, furniture, musical instruments, baskets and pots.”
If people were beginning to abandon the mills in the Archduke’s days, today, we can see that many of them are partially destroyed.
We concretely saw the mills in Longó and even visited one of them on the hill above the port. The mill no longer has any machinery and is partially demolished and overrun by plants. In the photo we can see one of Longo’s mills taken from the side of another mill.
