The most significant changes in landscape can be seen in Kraljevica, with shipyards replacing the areas used before for tuna fishing ( tonnaras). Similarly, there are industrial areas on both sides of the bay, and, in the mountains to the north and east of Bakar, the construction of a highway has had an enormous visual impact. All these changes have also had a considerable impact on the environment.
We should also note that water quality isn’t good in certain areas of the bay. For example, the water gives off a fairly strong smell in some areas of the small port in Bakarac and surprised us as well when lifting anchor in Bakar.
With the exception of the above, the remaining mountains as well as the city and the areas surrounding Bakarac and Kraljevica are the same as that described by the Archduke.
