“The fairly flat Gradina plain is filled with the grandiose ruins of Buccarizza (Bakarac) Castle from which it gets its name. They consist of big and small buildings, next to each other without any apparent plan, all of them without roofs and more or less in ruins. Lush plants grow in the open windows, weeds of all kinds cover the slope, and only the eternal blue of the clear sky or the tranquil gulf penetrate the solitary cracks. Rocks are dispersed around the terrain, crowned with wild roses and other dense bushes in an intense green. A part of the main building, looking towards the height of Bucarrizza bay still has its ruined round tower. Here, at twilight, the goatherd leans into the destroyed fireplace, lost in private contemplation, or clicks his fingers, calling the goats to him.”
