"In 1868 the illnesses with the greatest impact on the population were the following: apoplexies; cerebral congestion; neuralgias; hydrocephaly (in children); pneumonia; pleuritis; pleuropneumonia; tracheal, bronchial and pulmonary catarrh; anginas; hemoptysis; gastric gastric-catarrh and gastro-dynamic fever; gastritis and gastroenteritis; colic; diarrhea; dysentery; rheumatism; and exanthemas, in particular, measles, smallpox, erysipelas, furuncles and herpetic-related illnesses. The number of ill in the city of Palma and its entire district rose to 10,341, of which 1,996 died. Be that as it may, there were still 185 people under treatment. In total, 8.160 of the ill recovered. The illnesses causing the greatest number of deaths, in order of importance, were as follows:
