Islas Lípari / Eólicas

Hi there!!

After four days of bad weather, and with the permission of God Eolo, we have been able to do the tour of Lípari and Vulcano. Also we have been able to replicate some of the walking tours already done during the previous days.

LIPARI

After leaving the Port of Pignataro we have sailed towards the north. First of all we believe we have passed besides la Madonuzza. Punta Galera serves as the entry into the Canetto’s Bay.

Just after we have found the Puntazzi, which are already very close to the buildings of the mine; same mine that we mentioned in the Mount Pelato walking tour, two days ago.

From the sea it is much easier to see how one side of the volcano has been eliminated during 100 years of mine works. And Puorticcedu is really changed!

It is very interesting to see now the contrast in between the grey/white pumice and the reddish of the rusty obsidian of the Ruocchi Ruossi.

We arrive now to Punta Castagna, and to Acquacalda. Here we can see some rocks, formed by conglomerate, and a black islet, Immeruta, which we have taken form the oppsite side compared to the Archduk.

We are now in front of the Parmara, we cannot get much closer because the sea is still slightly stormy; we will have to be back another day.

The view of San Calogero es beautiful from the sea when we cross by the Pietra del Bagno.

Finally, just before crossing to Vulcano, we encounter a wonderful view of Pietra Luonga in the midle of the channel.

VULCANO

Now at Vulcano we start by Puortu Ponenti y we follow down the west coast. We pass in front of the Cavaddu Cave, we will also have to be back there when the is in better condition.

We arrive at the lighthouse situates in the south of the island, from here Sicily is very close.

We are already heading towards the north and we pass by Punta di Fimmini. Here the vegetation is extremely beautiful.

Just before Puortu Livanti we find Punta di Luccia. The description of the Archduk of this site make us dream about greek mythology and, certainly, the rocky formations are up to the expectations.

The slope of the Volcano seen from the sea is impressive, at the bottom there is an islet with an esculpture of a mermaid and just above a seagull flying around…

And finally we arrive at Puortu Livante where we will spend the night.

This day has been very useful to study largely the coast of both islands, Lípari and Vulcano. We will need another day the check with more detail some of the points (Parmara, Cavaddu cave, etc.).
